Entrepreneurs are achievers and that’s what I like the most about them. Most part of my life is influenced by some of the well-known Entrepreneurs. When I wrote my first business plan, I started with the quote by Walt Disney which says “If you can dream it, you can do it”.

I draw inspiration from every business leader who has made it big because I think there is so much happening in their life and so much to learn from them that can even be applied to our personal lives.

Here is a list of 16 lessons that I have learnt from these successful Entrepreneurs.

1. They are go-getters

“The way to get started is to quit talking and start doing.” –Walt Disney, Co-Founder, Disney

This is one of the most crucial quality of every Entrepreneur, when they come across an idea. Instead of wasting time and sleeping over it they immediately get to work and start planning, talk about it & work towards it with full zest.

Whether it works out or not is secondary but they will pursue it till the end.

2. They are risk takers

“If you’re not a risk taker, you should get the hell out of business.” –Ray Kroc, McDonald’s Founder

Almost every successful Entrepreneur has taken risk to be where they are today because every time you want to do something different there will be challenges, oppositions, a mindset that needs change, a hurdle that needs to be crossed.

It is only when we take risk we show confidence and that is what will help us stand out from others.

3. They are passionate

“Your work is going to fill a large part of your life, and the only way to be truly satisfied is to do what you believe is great work. And the only way to do great work is to love what you do.” –Steve Jobs, Co-Founder, Chairman and CEO, Apple

An Entrepreneur can only be successful if he is passionate about chasing his dreams. If your mission in life is not merely to survive but to thrive then you need to become passionate about what you want to do in life.

Always remember success comes to those who dedicate everything to their passion in life.

“Passion is energy. Feel the power that comes from focusing on what excites you.” – Oprah Winfrey

4. They work hard

“If you’re passionate about something and you work hard, then I think you will be successful.” –Pierre Omidyar, eBay Founder and Chairman

Successful Entrepreneurs are genuinely hard working; they even end up working for longer hours than their employees because they have to be on their toes all the time.

Passion along with hard work is definitely a recipe for success.

5. They plan ahead

“It’s almost always harder to raise capital than you thought it would be, and it always takes longer. So plan for that.” –Richard Harroch, Venture Capitalist and Author

In business it is easy to start up, but without a thoughtful planning it is like setting off on a journey to an unknown destination without a roadmap and all successful Entrepreneurs are well aware of that.

Even in our personal lives we need to have a plan, a personal goal. A goal for our career, for our family, for everything that you think is important in life.

6. They manage people well

“Make your team feel respected, empowered and genuinely excited about the company’s mission.” –Tim Westergen, Pandora Founder

Everyone who comes in touch with us contributes to our success and therefore it is very important how we manage them.

Entrepreneurs are smart people and know exactly how to deal with each employee according to their ability and character ultimately bringing out the best in them in a way that helps the company grow, and I think that’s an incredible quality we should all learn and apply in our lives.

7. They stay focused

“Stay focused, go after your dreams and keep moving toward your goals.” – LL Cool J

When we stay focused we can accomplish almost anything from studying for a test or finishing our work an hour early.

Staying focused helps us improve our professional life, help us listen to people better, and also help us come up with a solution to problems at a quicker speed.

8. They are highly Creative

I like to stay busy, I like to stay focused, and I like to stay creative. Without being creative I’d be dead. – Jeremy Renner

Without creativity every business has the potential to close down. There is a huge competition out there in the business world, even large enterprises have to risk it all to deliver the best at all times.

Entrepreneurs have to be creative in their approach to beat their competitors, creative in the way they present themselves; creative in the way they package their product / services.

9. They enjoy life to the fullest

“In between goals is a thing called life, that has to be lived and enjoyed.” –Sid Caesar, Entertainer

Entrepreneurs work hard to get where they want to reach but successful Entrepreneurs also know how to enjoy life to the fullest and do not allow work to bind them from spending quality time with family and friends.

They have learnt to value life apart from the process of just making money all the time.

10. They know how to sell

“Everyone lives by selling something.” ~Robert Louis Stevenson

Every Entrepreneur needs to have the skill of selling without which it is impossible to make money. They know how to present themselves, their products/services in a way that it captures the buyers’ attention.

For our personal lives as well we need to learn the art of selling because it the how you present yourself that will make a difference and grab people’s attention.

11. They are not afraid of failures

“Don’t worry about failure; you only have to be right once.” –Drew Houston, Dropbox Co-Founder and CEO

Successful Entrepreneurs are brave guys, they are never afraid of failures.

Sadly our educational system & our work culture has become so rigid that we fail to encourage people to learn from their mistakes. School / work penalize anyone commits any sort of error or blunder and eventually they produce people who never dare to make mistakes and who stay away from anything that has the risk of failure.

I have personally learned more from my failures than my success and I teach the same to my children.

12. They don’t work for money

“Chase the vision, not the money; the money will end up following you.” –Tony Hsieh, Zappos CEO

Money is not the only motivation for successful entrepreneurs, they genuinely love to create and build new and remarkable products.

13. They surround themselves with quality people

“The secret to successful hiring is this: look for the people who want to change the world.” –Marc Benioff, Salesforce CEO

Successful Entrepreneurs build quality team around them who are far better than them. They look for people who have the same burning passion that they have and spend most of their time with these men.

Even in our personal lives the quality of people we surround ourselves with makes a huge difference.

14. They are always in hunt of opportunities

“A pessimist sees the difficulty in every opportunity; an optimist sees the opportunity in every difficulty.” –Winston Churchill, British Prime Minister

Successful Entrepreneurs are optimistic people who always look for an opportunity in every situation.

15. They think big

“As long as you’re going to be thinking anyway, think big.” –Donald Trump, The Trump Organization President

One of the common traits of successful Entrepreneurs in the world is the ability to think big and set big goals.

Donald Trump once said “Most people think small because most people are afraid of success, afraid of making decisions, afraid of winning. And that gives people like me a great advantage.”

Let that not be said about us.

16. They follow their instincts

“Trust your instincts.” –Estée Lauder, Founder, Estée Lauder

Often Entrepreneurs trust their instincts while making decision. Instincts are not merely thoughts but they are grounded in feelings and learning how to see through a thought based reaction to the instinct beneath it is a powerful way how Entrepreneurs make decisions.
