Son, you are Creative

I meet a lot of people who say they are not a creative person by nature which leads me to write this post. Most people think that there are only a few gifted ones who are bestowed with creative abilities which is absolutely wrong.

You have to understand that creativity is not just about art and colors. It is an act of turning your imaginations into reality, the ability to perceive the world in new ways, the process of bringing something new into being.

“Everybody born comes from the Creator trailing wisps of glory. We come from the Creator with creativity. I think that each one of us is born with creativity.” – Maya Angelou

Observe any child and you will see they all possess creative skills which allow them to explore and learn new things. It’s only when they grow up that few of them stop exploring which kills their creative abilities.

I believe every one of us is born with extraordinary imaginative ability, intelligence, intuition, feeling & spirituality which is the true source of creative thinking.

It is only when we stop being imaginative that we become less creative.

“Imagination is the source of every form of human achievement. And it’s the one thing that I believe we are systematically jeopardizing in the way we educate our children and ourselves.” – Sir Ken Robinson

The other interesting question to ask is whether our school and education system is responsible in killing our creativity. Sir Ken Robinson in his talk on TED called ‘Do schools kill creativity‘ brings out an interesting observation which you may want to check.

There could be many other reasons why people think they are not creative in nature. All I want to say is that you can still get back to your childhood days and think like a child, explore like a child, take risks like a child, imagine like a child and most importantly act like a child. You will then discover how creative you are.

Let me know if this thought provoked you to re-consider your opinion on whether you are a creative person or not.

Hi Saju, A profound thought indeed. In fact i did take the time to view the video clip by Sir Ken Robinson and feel more enriched now. What really struck me is the fact that ‘creativity is as important as literacy’. And with an infact kid at home, this thought will always remain at the back of my mind. Thank you very very much for sparking the thought
